How to Run for an Open Position

The 2026 election cycle begins with the candidate declaration window opening on February 6, 2026. April 1st is the deadline for notifying the Board of your intent to run for a seat on the Board.

To become an official candidate and have your name appear on the ballot for an open position, you must qualify for the open position and declare your candidacy in writing to the Board. Once your candidacy is declared, your name and the position for which you are running will be posted on the ABC Board of Directors Elections page.

Independent Grower Positions:

To be considered for an independent grower position, a candidate must:

  1. Be listed as a current grower on a Handler’s grower list.
  2. Complete and submit a Notice of Intent to Run form. Forms may also be printed, scanned and emailed to abcbodelections@almondboard.com, or printed and mailed to the Almond Board of California, at 1150 9th Street, Suite 1500, Modesto, California 95354. Notice of Intent to Run form must be received by April 1.
  3. Complete a Grower Petition signed by at least 15 independent growers of almonds (verified by the Board). The document must state the position for which the candidate wishes to run.
  4. Return the Grower Petition to ABC by April 1. Petitions may be scanned and emailed to abcbodelections@almondboard.com, or mailed to the Almond Board of California, at 1150 9th Street, Suite 1500, Modesto, California 95354.

Independent Handler Positions:

To be considered for an independent Handler position, a candidate must:

  1. Be registered as a current Handler on the posted Handler list.
  2. Complete and submit a Notice of Intent to Run form. Intent to Run form must be received by April 1. Forms may also be printed, scanned and emailed to abcbodelections@almondboard.com, or printed and mailed to the Almond Board of California, at 1150 9th Street, Suite 1500, Modesto, California 95354.

Cooperative Handler and Grower Positions:

The cooperative handler member and alternate nominees and the cooperative grower member and alternate nominees are selected through their cooperative associations.

The Almond Board encourages eligible women, minorities, and people with disabilities to consider running for a position on the Board of Directors as it believes this committee should reflect the diversity of the industry it serves.
