Monounsaturated Fats

Almonds & Healthy Monounsaturated Fats

Monounsaturated fatty acids help decrease harmful LDL-cholesterol while increasing protective or “good” HDL-cholesterol.

Almonds & Monounsaturated Fats

Monounsaturated fatty acids, also known as MUFAs, are a type of unsaturated fat found in almonds, canola oil, olive oil, omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish and other foods. MUFAs store energy in the body, insulate the body and organs, and transport fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin E.

Scientific evidence suggests, but does not prove, that eating 1.5 ounces of most nuts, such as almonds, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Just one ounce of almonds contains 13 grams of unsaturated fat, only 1 gram of saturated fat and no cholesterol. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that saturated fat make up no more than 10% of daily calories.i

Almonds provide 9g of monounsaturated fat in one serving (28g or 1 oz).

The Science Behind Almond Benefits

As one of the most research foods, top scientists from around the globe have uncovered that almonds may help support heart health, exercise recovery, blood sugar levels, gut health and skin health.
